[Commission] The Runner: The Top tier

Name: Phoenia

Age: 24

1st division Greyleague service human pet racing champion

Another nail biting race, another win, and then back onto her examination table where the team staffs prod, poke, patch her up and clean her off. It as degrading as anything in this life of her can be, but after years of being on the top, she just accepted it. Anything to allow her to keep being the fastest.

Phoenia (original name unknown) went into the program at age 20. Unfortunately, she wound up in a bad home and was rescued from it in poor condition only three months after being placed with her owner going to prison for mistreatment. After recovering and retraining, Phoenia was placed in a kennel to await adoption. The staff there noticed her running around often, dashing faster and faster on all fours around the yard. While not uncommon for rescues to work out their stress that way, Phoenia outran and outlasted all the other pets with ease. So, a few calls were made and a few interested parties visited to examine her. One of them found her worth his time and adopted her so he could add her to his small team of amateur runners. This turned out to be a fantastic move on that man’s part, as Phoenia took to her new life immediately. Quickly becoming the leader of the small pack of greyhoundgirls, under her new owner’s guidance, she pulled her team through their first competition and never looked back.

Now, She’s the long reigning  champion of the sport. Enjoying the celebrity status that comes with it and still at the top of her game. Three years after their first competition, two years beyond her compulsory service period, the organization extended her service, surprisingly without her refusal, and still keeping her in the race. Many of her pack sisters came and went, some have been sold off to another team and the others have retired from greyhoundgirl competitions, going back to be normal service pets or getting out of their compulsory services. Yet Phoenia shows no interest in slowing down, or wanting to get out. Always on edge, working hard to improve even now.

Perhaps worried of what will come flooding back if she settles down and has time to reflect on those first months at her first home. Perhaps frightened of what “normal” life waiting for her if she’s retired. Whatever the reason, Phoenia keeps dominating the competitions despite younger greyhoundgirls working hard to catch up to her, nipping at her heels.

Hey y’all!

Today we have a special co-own commissioned piece, requested by Tom. Who gave me a really good idea to incorporate into The Runner story and also help support making the pic.

Caption provided mainly by Tom with some adjustments by me. Thank you very much!

Introducing Phoenia, the current champion of the greyhoundgirl racing. Tom’s idea was to demonstrate the rough nature of the race and the state the racing pets are in after each race. It can be dirty and there can be some blood^^

Let us know what you think!
